This is why I will always recommend taking a friend and at least one gun with you to sell/buy stuff through CL.

We still don’t know if it was craigslist related. That’s just speculation at this point.

Fair enough, but I’d say it is some very strong speculation.

The weirdest thing to me is that they took the time to bury him, but left the car.

If you are going to steal the car, you have failed.

If it’s personal, they took time to hide the body, but left the car as a clue as to where to look for the body.

Whatever the motive, it was fucking sloppy.

Or meet by a police station or somewhere very busy, like a mall.

SOOO upsetting I’m sure the family would like to know why they killed him but didn’t take the car.. What could they possibly have gained from the murder ? unless the murderer wasn’t motivated by money or the car... Still very sad and I feel for the family.

Odd fact, I’m an SIUE alumni.

Pure speculation:

A) Perhaps killing him was not in their plans, just stealing the car. After he was dead, they panicked and took off without the car, because them being caught with the car would be pretty strong evidence of them being the murderer(s). It’s one thing to risk going down for auto theft, another to risk going down for murder.

B) Perhaps they were disturbed by a passer by or something which caused them to run without the car?

C) Perhaps they are phenomenally stupid, buried him with the car keys still in his pocket, and didn’t want to go through the trouble to retrieve them.

Nah, everyone’s latching onto it because it’s a good headline that sells clicks. If he was selling his car and they killed him for it, wouldn’t they have taken the car? Also, if he was going to potentially sell the car, how was he planning on getting home? He happened to have a car for sale on Craigslist when he got shot. If it’s related to him getting killed, then the murders are incredibly inept and I’m kind of surprised that they haven’t been caught already.

At this point, I’ll believe anything. It’s so weird.

Those are great points actually. I’m in the middle of working on some massive sales files at work and didn’t even take the time to really think about it beyond the fact that they’d found the body.

I’m inclined to agree that it isn’t related to the Craigslist ad now.

Yep, this has a lot more of the hallmarks of a shadow economy (drugs, gambling, loans, etc) deal gone wrong more than a CL slaying.

My odds: 5% random, 20% CL, 30% dispute with acquaintance, 45% shadow deal gone wrong

I mean, I’m not saying that it wasn’t a robbery gone wrong. Anything’s possible, but the police even said that they have no evidence to connect it and have already contacted the person who he was in contact with. It’s just that the shit-stirring that the media does really pisses me off. The headline is that he was found dead “after putting his car on craigslist,” which is true. He did put his car on CL, and he was found dead after that. The article never suggests that it’s related and the police never suggest that it’s related. They just keep mentioning it because it’s a good headline. It’s the same shit as when an Uber driver is accused of sexual assault. They make a huge deal about it being an Uber driver even though sexual assaults happen every day in regular cabs. No one wants to hear about a cabbie assaulting someone, though. Everyone’s ridden in a cab. Cabs are familiar. But Uber (and craigslist, and Facebook) is new technology, so it’s easier to stoke people’s fear of the unknown. Fear sells ad space.

No, you make an excellent point. It’s like if a guy was shot in the parking lot of a KFC and the headline read, “Man dies after eating at KFC!”

I dunno. Maximizing your likelihood of getting away with it, maybe? Ask a serial killer.

Whelp, it was the craigslist ad. I still think it’s irresponsible reporting and am kind of annoyed that that was it since now everyone’s going to be freaking out about it for who knows how long.
